Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Your 4-day shared desert tour from Fes to Merzouga begins with an early pickup from your accommodation or an accessible meeting point in Fes.

Travel south toward Ifrane, a peaceful mountain town often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Stop to explore the town and take photographs before continuing toward the cedar forests near Azrou.

At the cedar forest, you may see the native Barbary macaques in their natural environment. Please respect the animals and follow your driver’s safety advice.

Continue through the landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains toward Midelt. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing south. Lunch is not included.

In the afternoon, cross the Tizi n’Talghamt Pass and enjoy panoramic views of the Ziz Gorges and Ziz Valley. This fertile valley is known for its extensive palm groves and date production.

Pass through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils, minerals and dates. Depending on the available time, you may stop at a local fossil workshop before continuing to Merzouga.

Upon arrival at the Erg Chebbi dunes, meet your camel guide and begin a sunset camel ride lasting approximately one to one-and-a-half hours. Stop on a high dune to watch the sunset, take photographs and try sandboarding.

Continue to the luxury desert camp, where you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan mint tea. Settle into your private tent before enjoying dinner.

After dinner, experience traditional Berber music around the campfire and admire the stars above the Sahara.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert – Nomad Family – Khamlia – Hassi Labied Oasis

Wake up in the Sahara and enjoy breakfast at the luxury desert camp. After breakfast, begin a 4×4 tour around the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Travel across the desert to discover panoramic viewpoints, fossil areas and the black volcanic landscapes surrounding Merzouga.

Visit a local nomad family living in traditional tents. Share Moroccan tea with the family and learn about their daily lifestyle, animals and traditions in the Sahara.

Continue to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa community and traditional spiritual music. Meet local musicians and enjoy a performance of their distinctive rhythms and songs.

Depending on the season and water conditions, you may also visit Dayet Srij Lake. Migratory birds, including flamingos, can sometimes be seen here. However, the lake, water and wildlife sightings are seasonal and cannot be guaranteed.

Stop for lunch in Merzouga or Hassi Labied. Lunch on Day 2 is not included, allowing you to select and pay directly at the restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit the Hassi Labied oasis. Walk through the palm gardens and discover how local families use traditional irrigation canals to cultivate crops near the desert.

Return to the luxury camp in the afternoon. Enjoy free time to shower, relax, walk on the nearby dunes or watch the changing colours of the desert.

Dinner will be served at the camp, followed by another peaceful evening of traditional music and stargazing.

Day 3: Merzouga – Tissardmine – Black Desert – Safsaf Oasis

After breakfast at the camp, depart at approximately 9:00 AM for a full-day 4×4 adventure to Safsaf Oasis.

Leave the Erg Chebbi dunes and travel off-road through the remote landscapes east of Merzouga. Pass traditional Berber villages before reaching Tissardmine village and oasis.

See the contrast between Tissardmine’s palm trees and the surrounding desert. Continue across the black hamada, a wide rocky desert landscape characterized by dark volcanic rocks.

Stop along the route to discover ancient fossil areas, admire panoramic desert views and take photographs.

Visit local nomad families living in this remote region. Share Moroccan mint tea inside or beside a traditional tent and learn about life far from the main villages.

Continue toward Safsaf Oasis, located approximately 40 kilometres off-road from Merzouga near the Algerian border. This hidden oasis is known for its palm trees, natural water, desert vegetation and peaceful atmosphere.

Walk through the oasis and enjoy free time beneath the palm trees. Water levels depend on the season and recent rainfall, so swimming cannot be guaranteed.

A traditional lunch will be freshly prepared for you in the desert. Enjoy Madfouna, commonly known as Berber pizza, served with Moroccan salad and mint tea.

After lunch, relax in the shade before starting the return journey. Additional stops may be made at desert viewpoints, fossil areas or nomad locations, depending on the available time and local conditions.

Return toward Erg Chebbi, with a possible stop to enjoy the late-afternoon light or sunset. Arrive back at the luxury camp at approximately 6:00 PM.

Enjoy a shower and some time to relax before your final dinner at the camp. Spend your last Sahara evening enjoying traditional Berber music around the campfire and stargazing.

Leave Merzouga and travel toward Erfoud, a town known for its fossil products and date market. Depending on the schedule, you may stop at a fossil workshop before continuing toward the Ziz Valley.

Travel through the Ziz Valley and stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking its palm groves, traditional villages and mountain landscapes.

Continue through the Ziz Gorges and cross the Tizi n’Talghamt Pass toward Midelt. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Lunch is not included.
